It Is What It Is is a 40-minute musical short film created at the New York Film Academy starring the first graduating class of the Musical Certificate Program. Written and directed by VP Boyle, music and lyrics by Andrew Gerle. The cast features newcomers Jaspal Binning, Eden Classens, Linnea Larsdotter, Kaitlan Emery, Brittani Janish, Abi Robinson and Arial Virginia Stafford. Guest stars include Michael Laibson, Johan Matton, Kelley Bradshaw and Carolyn Mignini. Produced by New York Film Academy, VP Boyle & Andrew Gerle. Co-Produced by Orlando Braun, Elizabeth Foley and Denise Barbarita. It Is What It Is premiered as an official selection chosen from over 4500 film submissions at the 2011 Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF). As New England’s largest and most prestigious festival, it is ranked in the top ten film festivals in the country and is one of the few qualifying festival for the Short Films category for the Academy Awards.
